Sacramento Daily Union, 5 August 1851

A duel was fought at Vicksburg on the 12th June, be-
tween General Freeman, the Whig candidate for Con-
gress, and General Smith of Jackson, the Democratic
nominee. At the fifth round Smith was wounded in the
shoulder.
