WEALTHY LINCOLN MAN BELIEVED
\nDEAD IN STORM ON DIVIDE, BODY SOUGHT<\/p>\n
Lume Adams, well-to-do Lincoln man,
\n83 years old, was lost in a snow storm
\nnear Forest Hill early Tuesday morning
\nof last week and it is believed he perished,
\nas no trace of him has been found.
\nSearching parties have scoured the country
\nroundabout without success. Adams went to the
\nDivide six weeks ago on learning that his two
\nbrothers Timothy and Harry Adams, were sick
\nwith influenza. He took care of them until
\nthey were out of danger and then left early
\none morning to walk the four miles from the cabin
\nto Forest Hill, intending to take a stage there
\nfor Colfax to return to his home.
\nA few days later it was found he had not reached
\nLincoln and investigation developed the fact that
\nhe had not reached Forest Hill. Then the search
\nbegan, and it has continued daily since.
\nA reward of $50 has been posted by Lincoln friends
\nfor the recovery of the body.
\nIn the meantime Harry Adams has had a relapse and
\non account of his age it is feared he cannot recover.
\nThe brothers, with another brother, George Adams,
\ncame to California in 1852. George died a few years
\nago. Two remained on the Divide in a never ending
\nsearch for gold, but Lume went to the lower country
\nand tried his luck at farming.
\nA few years ago, when a storm blew down the chimney
\nof his rented house he found $12,000 among the bricks.
\nAs no owner could be located, he kept the money.
\nGeorge Adams and another man were the only survivors
\nof a party of 35 fortune seekers who came to San
\nFrancisco \u201caround the Horn,” cholera having broken
\nout on the ship.<\/p>\n
BOLSHEVISM AND THE LITTLE SAVING STAMPS<\/p>\n
Vaccinate the nation with thrift as a prophylactic
\nagainst \u201cBolshevism\u201d is the appeal of Governor
\nJames K. Lynch of the Federal Reserve Bank in a
\nletter sent yesterday to all bankers of the Twelfth
\nFederal Reserve District thanking them for their aid
\nduring the war and urging continued support until the
\n\u201c\u2018job is finished.\u201d
\n\u201cWars are generally followed by pestilence,\u201d wrote Governor
\nLynch. \u2018\u2018Spanish influenza, starting in Europe raged
\na year before we gave it much attention. Working westward,
\nit attacked our physical health and thousands of our
\npeople died.
\n\u201cThere is another pestilence raging in Europe which
\nis a menace to our financial and national wealth.
\nIt is called \u2018Bolshevism.\u2019 It has Russia by the throat.
\nAnarchy sits on the throne with a bloody sword in one
\nhand and a flaming torch in the other. This disease is
\nalso working westward. Already it is knocking at our doors.
\nNo quarantine will keep it out. Our best remedy is the
\nWar Savings Stamp. Let us vaccinate the whole nation with thrift.
\n\u201cIt is fundamental that no man will seek to overthrow
\nthe government that owes him money. Banks should encourage
\nthe sale of War Savings Stamps. As the heritage of war let
