\nthe Presidio in San Francisco, according
\nto Walter Chandler, Madera
\nCounty district attorney elect.
\nThose attending from Madera
\nCounty were Chandler, Police
\nChief Walter Thomas, Under-sheriff
\nMarlin Young, Inspector Don Har-
\nrington, Chowchilla Police Chief J.
\nF. Rhine and Chowchilla City
\nClerk Gilbert Zwinge.
\nThe ex-Communist, Norman
\nMinnie, told law enforcement officers
\nand other officials from
\nthroughout Northern California of
\nhis experiences with the party.
\nChandler said. He stated that he
\nhad been assigned to Madera and
\nMerced counties between 1932 and
\n1934 and had helped in organizing
\ncampaigns and demonstrations in
\nthis area.
\nOther speakers were Hugh
\nBurns, chairman of the State Senate
\ncommittee; Dick Combs, attorney
\nfor the committee: and
\nStewart Ward. secretary of the
\nCommonwealth Club of San Fran-
\ncisco. General George Fisher, re-
\ntired, of San Diego, also an active
\nworker in California anti-Communist
\ncampaigns presided.
\n\u201cThey also discussed methods
\nby which private citizens can fight
\nCommunism.\u201d Chandler said, \u201cand
\nit all boiled down to this: if you
\nsee or suspect anything, notify the
\nFederal Bureau of Investigation\u2014-
\nquickly.”
