Another Duel\u2014 Man Killed. \u2014 We extract the following account
\nof a duel, on the Yuba river, from the Ne-
\nvada Journal extra, issued on Saturday evening :
\nA duel took place on the Yuba, about eighteen miles
\nfrom here, on the spot of the disputed Chinese claims, of
\nwhich we have frequently spoken, between a man nam-
\ned George M. Dibble, formerly a midshipman, and E. B.
\nLundy, familiarly known as Jim Lundy, a Canadian,
\nboth of this city, the former of whom was killed.
\nA trivial dispute had arisen a few evenings previously,
\nduring a convivial party \u2014 on a conundrum \u2014 during which
\nDibble called Lundy a liar, and to which Lundy replied
\nwith opprobrious epithets. In consequence, Dibble chal-
\nlenged Lundy, and the challenge was accepted\u2014 the
\nsecond of Lundy being C. E. G. Morse of this city. The
\npreliminaries were arranged by Gen. Morehead, the sec-
\nond of Dibble, and Lundy’s second\u2014 the parties to stand
\nat 15 paces, and use Colt’s revolvers. At the signal
\ngiven, Lundy fired, Dibble reserving his fire. He had
\npreviously declared his intention to draw Lundy’s fire,
\nand then shoot him. After L.’s fire, D. called out, with
\nan oath, ” You have fired too soon.” His second asked,
\n” Are you satisfied ? at which D. opened his coat and
\nshowed where a ball bad passed into one side and out of
\nthe other. He pushed aside those who stepped to sup-
\nport him, and walked about 120 yards, and expired in
\nabout twenty minutes.
\nFrom information laid before him, Justice Anderson is-
\nsued a warrant this morning, but the officer arrived on the
\nground too late to make the arrest. He however took
\nLundy in charge, and the seconds came voluntarily. Mr.
\nLundy was formerly a resident of Sacramento.<\/p>\n

Another Duel. \u2014 We have to record another duel,
\nwhich puts all the preceding ones to the blush decidedly.
\nResult, one colored gentleman badly wounded in the
\nshoulder. It was a dark deed, but injured honor has been
\nsatisfied. Revenge has been sought, and blood \u2014 blood
\nhas been had. A ” lady “of course was in the case. It
\nseems that the pangs of love had pierced the breast of the
\nfair one of dark complexion, and the visits of her gallant
\ngrew more and more frequent. We are informed that
\nthe uncle of the lady learned that the gay Lothario was a
\n“sporting man,” and forthwith forbade him the house.
\nThe dashing young gentleman thereupon deemed his
\nhonor touched, and forthwith selected his friend. The
\nformality of passing the notes was gone through with,
\nthe pistols were borrowed, and to insure against arrest,
\nthe parties betook themselves, early yesterday morning,
\nto the Presidio, or the Mission, or some other fashionable
\nlocality, we did not learn which, where the ground was
\nstaked off,\u00a0 the word was given, ” Are you ready, gentle-
\nmen? \u2014 Fire! \u2014 one \u2014 two \u2014 three !” and one colored indi-
\nvidual was borne from the field with a ball in his shoulder.
\nThat individual was the uncle. We suppose now that
\nthe ” gentleman ” is not a sporting man, and that his hav-
\ning shot down the “lady’s” protector entitles him to her
\nfair hand. Duels, we believe, have now been run into
\nthe ground and broken off.<\/p>\n
