\nThe docket this morning was
\nmade up as follows:
\nmisdemeanors, 24; assault and battery, 8;

\nassault with a deadly weapon, 1 ;
\nusing treasonable language, 1; petty larceny, 1;
\ncontinued cases, 21.<\/p>\n
SENTENCES.<\/p>\n
Dennis Meagher, for a misdemeanor, came in for a fine of $ \u2014
\nDaniel Callahan, a fast horseman, forfeited his bail, $30.
\nD. J. Ford, do do., $30.
\nHaidee Leonard was sent to the County Jail for twenty days.<\/p>\n
FREE FIGHTISTS.<\/p>\n
John Masterline was convicted of fighting the whole city and
\ncounty of San Francisco, or as much of it as dared to face
\nhim, and was held for sentence. He concluded on the whole,
\nthat he might as well die on the spot, and so called for
\nhis sentence at the word go. “You can pay $15.”
\nJohn pungled the greenbacks and departed.
\nThe next blood thirsty villain was G. D. Mariand, who assaulted,
\nbattered, beat, knocked down, chawed up and teetotally demolished
\nJohn \u2014 Heaven only knows what the Clerk intended to write, but the
\nname looks wonderfully like Gravy \u2014 with either a hoe, a cooking
\nstove, or a frying pan. No two witnesses swore to the same implement,
\nand the evidence waa strangely contrary. The Judge remarked that
\nthere was hard swearing on one side or the other, and no wonder\u2014
\nit was a hardware case all through.
\nThe Assistant District Attorney cleared up the character of the
\nfrying pan after a labored effort, leaving the impression that
\nMariand had struck the unhappy victim with a haystack, and he
\nwas held for sentence. We wouldn’t be surprised a bit if this
\nscrape costs defendant $10 before he gets through with it.
\nJ. J. Stamer was convicted on the charge of slapping a small
\nboy who annoyed him by drumming on his doorstep, and was fined $15.
\nJohn Thompson was charged by officer Coffee with hitting him
\nin the face while he was attempting to quell a disturbance
\nin a low saloon.<\/p>\n
WIFE WHIPPIST.
\nDennis Meagher was convicted on the charge of larruping his better half,
\na poor hard-working washerwoman, at his house at the Mission Dolores,
\nat 11 o’clock at night. Dennis appears to be a thoroughly bad customer,
\nand deserves to go back over the Bay.<\/p>\n
SECESH HOWLER CORRALLED.<\/p>\n
John Leonard was arrested on Pacific street, at 10 o’clock at night,
\nby officer King, while he was in the act of cheering Jeff Davis,
\nswearing that he was a Southern man, could eat a d\u2014d Yankee at any
\ntime for breakfast, would stand by the South to the death, etc., etc.
\nJudge Shepheard held him to answer at the County Court, on the charge
\nof uttering treason, and fixed his bail at $1,500.<\/p>\n
A VERT PETTY LARCENY CASE.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Hannah Spencer was charged by a pawnbroker, named John Franklin,
\nwith petty larceny. It appeared that defendant pawned a watch-chain
\nwith Franklin, and when she came back there was $7.16 due on it.
\nHe was holding the chain in his hand, when she threw down a $5 greenback
\nand $1 in coin, snatched the chain and made oft with it. For this he
\nhad her arrested, and Judge Shepheard held her for sentence, with
