A few days since a couple of \u201csoiled doves\u201d arrived in town from Carson,
\nin search of a member of the late Legislature, claiming that he owed them
\n$200. The individual in question circumvented them by getting on the
\nengine of the western-bound train and running to Verdi, and then coming
\nback on a sleeping car and passing through.\u2014 Reno State Journal.<\/p>\n
Highway Robbery. \u2014 G. W. Hancock, came to Pioche, on Monday last,
\nwith a lot of produce, which he disposed of to J. H. Dupaix, after which
\nhe made his way to Panaca, stopping at Atchison’s until Tuesday noon,
\nwhen he left for Dry Valley. Between Dry Valley and Meadow Valley he
\nwas halted by five highwaymen, who robbed him of $311.45, and a silver
\nwatch valued at $45.
\nNot content with that, they set upon him and beat him over the head with
\nsix-shooters, until they supposed he was dead, after which they left.
\nMr. Hancock managed to reach town late on Wednesday, when the affair was
\nreported to the proper officers, who are now in search of the depredators.
\nWe think they ought to have been satisfied with stealing his money,
\nwithout attempting to take his life \u2014Ely Record.<\/p>\n
