\t\t\t\tSYMPATHETIC. \u2014 The Stockton Independent relates the following anecdote: On Saturday evening, at the theater, during the performance of the “Drunkard,” while Mr. Courtaine was acting the part of “Edward Middleton,” and while performing that portion of the play which represents him as suffering the torments of delirium tremens and pleading most piteously but in vain for a glass of brandy as a means of temporary relief, a soldier in the parquette, whose sympathies had been aroused to their highest pitch, arose from his seat and exclaimed: “By —- , I’ll give you a drink!”\u00a0\u00a0 The effect on actors and audience may easily be imagined.<\/p>\n
