The Way Through The Woods

“The Way Through The Woods” by Colin Dexter made it home a few days ago from a small free library up the hill from our place. I’ve not read any Dexter in decades and now recall why he has sold millions of books.
Chief Inspector Morse is as irascible as ever and all the usual characters are present. The Coroner Max dies in the first third of the book and a new Coroner is introduced. Morse successfully fucks up relationships with two women only to salvage one at the end. He’s close to getting the solution right a number of times until he nails it at the end.
Makes me want to pull out some P.D. James or Dorothy L …
